The overall objective and mission statement of the EAU Research Foundation is: to stimulate, facilitate, organise and popularise urological research in Europe, both in clinical and basic science, and specific training in these fields through the following activities:

  • Network formation by establishing a scientific communication infrastructure between the EAU-Central Research Office (EAU-CRO) and clinical study centres, satellites thereof and basic science laboratories;
  • Initiating and organising multi-centric, multi-national cooperation for conducting clinical studies and basic science projects;
  • Communicating these activities to European urologists and to public and private sources of funding;
  • Initiating, funding and conducting investigator-initiated trials (IIT);

Identifying and offering opportunities for research scholarships.

The Research Foundation includes a Basic Research Committee and a Clinical Research Committee that both collaborate with interested parties by providing full-service clinical research facilities. The Central Research Office, also known as CuraTrial, as well as other clinical research affiliates take active part in EAU

Initiatives

The EAU Research Foundation shapes strategies and policies that will guide, coordinate and link together clinical and basic research activities in Europe over the next decade, as well as influence the governance and ethical basis of clinical trials.

A second initiative is establishing a series of interlinked networks. By creating (sub)specialist clinical and basic research training networks the Foundation aims to enable educational support, clinical scholarships and funding for basic research in areas that are currently underrepresented.

The Central Research Office maintains the

Board

The Board of the EAU Foundation for Urological Research confirms strategies of the Foundation and is responsible for financial management. The Board steers the Central Research Office as well as the four Committees that each have a special focus on one of the Foundation's activities.
