EAU Annual Congress
Description
- The EAU Annual Congress is an international meeting and one of the leading events in urology.
- The EAU Annual Congress is the largest urological meeting in Europe.
- The EAU Annual Congress is held annually in early spring.
- The EAU makes every effort to move to a different European city each year, but is restricted to locations offering sufficient hotel capacity, an adequately large Congress centre and exhibition hall, as well as a major international airport.
- The EAU Annual Congress attendees span all areas of the urology arena including: urology professionals, industry representatives and press reporters for both the medical and consumer press.
- The next EAU Annual Congress will be in Berlin, Germany, from 21-24 March 2007.
History
- In 1972, Professor Georgio Ravasini, holder of the chair of Urology at Padua, brought together 10 well-known European urologists to discuss the establishment of a European urological society.
- In 1973, the Constituent Assembly took place in Amsterdam on the occasion of the International Urology Congress. The European Association of Urology was a fact! It would establish its headquarters permanently in Switzerland because of its neutrality.
- In September 1974, the first EAU congress was held in Padua, Italy and was chaired by Prof. G. Ravasini.
- The first issue of the EAU journal European Urology was published on 1 January 1975.
- European Congresses were held every two years until 1997. From that date onwards, the EAU Congress has been an annual event
- By now, the EAU has developed into a modern and professionally-run scientific organisation, representing over 10,000 urologists, urologists-in-training and urological scientists form the Atlantic Ocean to the Ural mountains. The EAU is the leading urological organisation in Europe in the fields of science, education and publications.
