The Annual EAU Congress is rapidly reaching a size which imposes limitations on the number of presentations and possibilities of direct professional contacts. The Board of the European Association of Urology therefore sees the need for an additional tier of meetings on a regional, but supranational basis. They are to be platforms were new clinical or experimental work from the region is presented to an international audience. Because of shorter travelling distance this has the added advantage of low budget participation, so that young urologists find it easier to participate actively. This will also give them the possibility to personally learn to know their contemporaries from the region and to establish regional platforms of cooperation. To complement the international perspective state of the art lectures on topics of high current interest will also be given by invited speakers from outside the region.
The EAU Regional Meetings are key meeting in this new concept. I sincerely invite all colleagues from the region not only to participate but also to submit abstracts for presentations of their ongoing work. Strong regional representations will ultimately form the basis for repercussions on a Pan European level.
