Short Visit (SV)

To support young urologists, the EUSP provides the Short Visit (SV) for the chosen candidates to experience first-rate urological care, for a period of two or three weeks, in a centre of excellence in a foreign European country. This visit can only be done in preparation of a one year scholarship or a one year clinical research fellowship.

How to apply
Candidates should apply online and provide the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • List of PubMed Publications of the past five years, at least 1 PubMed Publication is obligated
  • Copy of passport
  • Letter of motivation (including a clearly stated idea of how the work will be further pursued or explored in the scholar's home country)
  • At least two letters of recommendation by senior urologists from the applicant's home country (should be signed and using an original letterhead paper)
  • Proof of acceptance of the Short Visit in the host institution (signed invitation letter from the host on original letterhead paper)
  • A detailed description of the action plan, including a time table, approved and signed by the host on original letterhead paper from the host institution

The original and signed documents should be sent by post to the EUSP office. Please allow time for obtaining signatures from all relevant parties when preparing your appendices.

Conditions for application

  • Applicants for the EUSP must be urologists or urologists-in-training (third or fourth year resident)
  • Age limit of 40 years
  • EAU membership for at least six months is mandatory
  • The host institution should preferably be an EBU-certified training centre
  • All projects must be conducted in a European institution outside the country where the applicant is currently working
  • After having completed any EUSP scholarship it is not possible to reapply for any of the EUSP Programmes.
  • Application must be in English

Financial support
A maximum of € 1,750 is available for basic training for a maximum period of three weeks.

The EUSP will cover:

  • Accommodation
  • Travel (one roundtrip)
  • Insurance
  • Visa
  • A limited amount for living expenses

The EUSP will not cover:

  • Expenses for accompanying persons
  • Course fees
  • Expenses for research and study materials
  • Private expenses

Deadlines
The application deadline is 31 March and 30 September of each year.
Please note that it’s not possible to start your scholarship within 4 months after each deadline.

Review of the applications
After the application deadline the EUSP Board will evaluate all applications. Applicants will be informed of the Board's decision approximately 2.5 months after the application deadline. The decision of the Board is final and no further appeal will be accepted.

Instalments
Financial grants will be transferred to the scholar in two instalments. A first instalment of 60% will be transferred before the start of the Short Visit. Written confirmation of the start date by the host supervisor is mandatory. The second instalment of 40% will be transferred after the Short Term Visit, provided the final report and financial overview submitted by the applicant have been approved by the Board. (Receipts should be provided to the EUSP Office for accommodation, travel, insurance and visa costs).

Reports
The scholar is required to present a report after the Short Term Visit which should include:

  • Hospitality of host
  • Accommodation
  • Clinical-, Research and teaching facilities of host institution
  • Personal benefit gained from the visit

The host is required to submit a report after the Short Term Visit which should include:

  • Participation of the scholar
  • Results

All publications related to this Short Visit must acknowledge the support of the European Urological Scholarship Programme.
