The EAUN is a direct result of the 1st nursing conference, which was organised at the XVth congress of the European Association of Urology in Brussels, April 2000.
The 1st International Meeting of the EAUN was held with an attendance of 110 participants from 11 different countries. In 2008, the EAUN meeting was attended by over 270 nurses from over 20 countries.

EAUN Aims & Objectives
The aims and objectives of the EAUN are:
- To act as the representative body for European nurses in urology and facilitate the continued development of urological nursing in all its aspects;
- To foster the highest standards of urological nursing care throughout Europe;
- To encourage urology research undertaken by nurses and enable the broadcasting of its results;
- To promote the exchange of experience and good practice between its members;
- To establish standards for training and practice for European urological nurses;
- To contribute to the determination of European urological health care policies
- To liaise and collaborate with other organisations in the field of
urology, particularly the European Association of Urology.
EAUN Bylaws and EAUN Long-term Strategy
During the General Assembly at the 9th International EAUN Meeting in Milan, Italy, 26-28 March 2008, a majority of the members who were present has approved the adapted bylaws.

The EAU Executive Board has give its full support and confirmed the viability of the long-term strategic goals and plans mapped out by the European Association of Urology Nurses (EAUN) following their meeting in November 2008.

EAUN Activities
- EAUN Fellowship Programme. The EAUN runs up a Fellowship Programme to stimulate European urological nurses to visit European hospitals for one or two weeks;
- International EAUN Meeting. Each year, the EAUN organises a separate programme for nurses at the EAU Annual Congress. Click here to view the 2009 EAUN programme at the Stockholm Congress.
- EAUN Guidelines. The EAUN publishes "Good Practice in Health Care" educational brochures such as :
Male Catheterization (Section 1) (2005),
Male, Female & Paediatric Intermittent Catheterization (Section 2) (2006),
The Male External Catheter (2008) and
Incontinent Urostomy (2009).
The 2009 Good Practice in Health Care booklet (on Incontinent Urostomy) is the first evidence-based EAUN guideline.
