EAU Support Fund

In 2000, the EAU Board founded the Support Fund, aiming to provide medical equipment to urological facilities which lack finances. In the twelve years of its existence, the EAU Support Fund has been able to provide support - urological equipment - to countries such as (amongst others) Georgia, Macedonia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Ukraine but was also able to contribute in the aftermaths of the earthquakes in Turkey and China.

The Support Fund does not donate money but sends urological equipment produced by Karl Storz or Olympus. Our longstanding relation with these equipment manufacturers enables us to provide this support.

To benefit from what the EAU Support Fund has to offer, urologists may submit a request for funding to the EAU through their national urological society (so endorsed by their national urological society). Personal applications will not be accepted. All requests submitted are evaluated by the EAU Board and the result is communicated to the applicant and the national urological society involved.
Urological facilities may apply for a maximum donation of € 15,000 per application. Each year a maximum of 1 institution per country is accepted to give all countries equal opportunity to be granted the equipment.

However, a problem that is experienced nowadays is the lack of knowledge of maintenance of the materials after the EAU and the equipment manufacturers have provided them. So when submitting a request, a representative of the specific country needs to coordinate the specific needs and check whether maintenance can indeed be carried out after the equipment has been provided.

Requests may be submitted to the EAU Support Fund – for attention of
Ms. Rinske Makaske-Seeger.

Please read the report from Dr. Alisher Boboev from Uzbekistan about his successful application.
